India Prohibited Import of Toys from China

      Guangdong Toy Association (GDTA) lately is informed Ministry of Commerce that, India announced on January 23 that, according to Section 5, read along with Section 3(2) of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) ACT 1992, import of “Toys from China” appearing under ITC Codes 9501, 9502, 9503 of Schedule-I of ITC (HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items is prohibited for six months with immediate effect and until further orders.
 
      The notice does not indicate the reason for the action. However, according to certain Indian news paper, the action results from soaring up of import of low-price Chinese toys to the country, which might impact local industry.
 
      Li Zhuoming, Vice Administrative President of Guangdong Toy Association, holds that, it is an act of trade protectionism. GDTA will keep a close eye on the progress of the affair and reflect related companies’ response to Chinese government.
