From July 19 to 20, withstanding the sweltering summer heat, Wen Jiabao, premier of China and member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC, visited Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen and other cities to investigate into the economic operation in Pearl River Delta. Accompanied by Wang Yang, member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC, and Huang Huahua, provincial governor, he visited nine enterprises dealing with different industries, including toy business, and had a talk with workers and technical staff to know more about production, sales as well as research and development. He also gave audience to various ideas in symposia and encouraged all to turn pressure into impetus and difficulties into opportunity. Furthermore, Wen inspired all with energy to strengthen R&D and technique, foster original brands and enhance competitive edge. 

This year, China’s economy has experienced keen challenge and trial. Attacked unexpectedly by great changes in global economy and domestic natural calamities of earthquake and sleet, China still maintains its good momentum for development. However, lots of conflict and problems continue to exist inside current economic development. The main aim for Premiere Wen’s trip this time is to make investigation in to status quo. Wen inspected Wynnewood Toys in Shenzhen during the trip. 

As a Hong Kong-invested maker that produces high-tech interactive toys, all of its products are distributed to Europe and US markets. Since last year, affected by various factors like higher cost for raw materials, upvaluation of RMB, greater cost in labor and decreased export rebates, toy makers suffer unheardof great pressure for surviving. 

Lawrence Chan, president of Wynnewood as well as chairman of Hong Kong Toys Council and honorable president of Guangdong Toy Association told premier Wen that, facing keen market competition this year, enterprises are doing toil and moil this year. 

Listening carefully, Wen made analyses with heads of the company on the future. It is thought that, whether or not it would turn for the better is determined by three aspects: changes in global market, especially trend of US economy, domestic policy, mainly concerning foreign trade, and quality, efficiency and competiveness of product. 

In sincere words and earnest wishes, Wen said, “toy will exist as long as we have kids. You must be convinced and see hope. Enterprises should endure difficulties. But endurance does not mean no accomplishment. We must try to recover difficulties. So we should make resolution to develop new product, lower cost and enhance competitive edge. All kinds of method should be attempted for market expansion.”

Confidence of administrators of Wynnewood was enhanced by Wen’s words.

After knowing about the situation for overall business, Wen came to workshops, encouraging workers from Sichuan, which had been attacked by the quake disaster. When he knew that, Shenzhen labor department organized enterprises to employ worker in disaster-attacked area, and enterprises also actively give priority to workers in Sichuan, Wen highly praised philanthropic act with practical manner. 

Wen fully approved companies that display their social responsibility when attacked by calamity. “Enterprises should be concerned about society and assume corresponding responsibility. Our enterprisers not only know operation and management, we see moral blood running in body,” said Wen emotionally. 

“Turing pressure into impetus and difficulties into opportunity.” In a symposium attended by some of Shenzhen’s enterprisers, Wen emphasized repeatedly. He expected enterprise’s effort in developing, upgrading and enhancing quality and efficiency. Only by this means can enterprises to be indefectible. Governmental departments are required to provide appropriate support at the same time.
