National Import of Toys Grows by 140 Percent

According to customs’ statistics, during the first nine months, national export value of toys records 14.66 billion US dollar, growing by 14.6% against the same period of last year. The increase is lower than the rate in 2007, which had 27.2% growth against 2005. Guangdong slows down its speed on export, while Shandong registers growth in large margin.

 

Guangdong export decelerate

Statistics shows that, lots of provinces and cities show obvious difference on growing rate.

 

Guangdong exports 10.23 billion US dollar, increasing by 0.6 percent against last year, making up 69.8% of national export. Slower growing rate reduces Guangdong’s share in China to a historical-low percentage.

 

Composing 9.4 percent of total toy export, Shandong sees export value of 1.38 billion US dollar, coming with a strong increase of 402%. Export during the first three quarters continues to show an uptrend.

 

Though Guangdong’s export growth has slide down to a lowest level, five other provinces gain over 100-percent increase respectively, including Hunan (456), Shandong402%), Gansu (230%) , Heilongjiang (161%), and Guangxi (108%). It can be translated into great and stable growth in other provinces, expect for Guangdong.

National import value of toys is 590 million US dollar, increased by 140% when compared with the same time of last year. Totally, 23 provinces in China import toys, among which Guangdong makes up 60%, which imports 350 million US dollar. Shandong’s 210 million US dollar composes 35.2% in national value. Additionally, Shanghai also makes up 2% with its 10 million US dollar of import.

 

Other provinces that have multiples of increase in import during the first nine months are Henan, Jilin, Guangxi and Shandong.

 

Game console maintain strong momentum

Among the 21 toy categories, game console still keeps ahead in export from January to September, contributing a total value of 14.66 billion US dollar.

 

The biggest five categories in export are: Video Game Consoles Collected with TV Set (3.65 billion US dollar, 24% of the total export, 67.6 US dollar/unit), Other Toys (2.51 billion US dollar, 17.1%, 0.3 US dollar/set), Other Video Game Consoles (2.48 billion US dollar, 16.9%, 19.4 US dollar/unit), Animal Toys (1.34 billion US dollar, 9.2%, 0.8 US dollar/unit) and Christmas Articles(1.29 billion US dollar, 8.8%, 2.7 US dollar/kg). Two categories of game consoles add up to 6.13 billion US dollar, accounting for 40 percent of total export.

 

So far as import is concern, game consoles is in the highest flight as well, which registers a total import of 590 million US dollar.

 

The five largest categories on import are Video Game Consoles Collected with TV Set (350 million, 59.3% of the total import, 280.8 US dollar/unit), Other Video Game Consoles (110 million US dollar, 18.7%, 1,161.2 US dollar/unit), Other Toys (30 million US dollar, 5.5%, 0.3 US dollar/set), Figures (14 million US dollar, 2.4%, 1.9 US dollar/unit) and Brain-training Toys (12 million US dollar, 2%, 4.1 US dollar/set). The two game console categories amount to 460 million US dollar, making up 70 percent of total import value.
