“The training’s at a right time. It’s practical and useful for us. I expect you will run more such event in the future,” certain reprehensive told me. On September 27th and 28th, a training course on how to adopt measures on new standards of Europe and U.S. was held in Dongguan and Zhongshan. Attendee companies gladly told TOY INDUSTRY that, the course exactly meets their demand.

The event is sponsored by Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province(GDDOFTEC)and organized by Guangdong Toy Association (GDTA). In its Dongguan session, Dongguan Toy Association and SGS act as supporters, while Zhongshan session is supported by Intertek Group (ITS). The two sessions respectively received around 400 and 250 attendees, who are chiefs for production, quality inspection and technical affairs.

Attendees showed great enthusiasm in the event. In Dongguan, half an hour before the course began, nearly 100 people had already arrived. Since amount of actual attendees exceeded expectation, organizer had to add temporary seats in the assembly meeting. In Zhongshan, lots of trainees also waited early for the meeting. I found that, all of them were listening to speech and making notes absorbedly.

In Dongguan and Zhongshan, which are both production base for toys in Guangdong province, a great number of companies deal with processing trade, products of which are mostly exported to European and American markets. Last year, export to these two market made up for 62.8 percent of total toy export of China, which can be translated into the extreme significance of the two. In fact, these two markets see strictest requirement on safety of toys. Particularly, EU has implemented RoHS directive and the U.S. has recently amended its ASTM standard, which have advanced stricter requirement of China’s export.

In order to acquaint companies with new standards and make products tally with importers’ requirement, with guidance of GDDOFTEC, GDTA organized professionals in realm of international technical standards to deliver speech on new standards or Europe and the U.S., and introduce detail solution for China’s makers and exporters.

Lei Dahua, senior technical manager of toy lab, SGS (China) and Liu Jiaxiong, testing manager of consumable debarment of ITS made respective speech on latest toy stranded of Europe as well as ASTM F963-07. At the same time, they analyzed recent high-profile recall from CPSC.

With practical examples, Chen Qiang, senior engineer of technical center of Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau explained that what kind of affect REACH imposed on China’s export and what companies should be attentive to.

Having definite object in their view, speakers provided good aid for listeners on practical works. In fact, when it came to question-answering period, attendees were eager to raise their questions and expected for answer.

It is known that, in order to improve companies’ power on coping with technical barriers, GDTA will continue too organize similar training event according to companies’ actual demands.
