In Vietnam, imported toys have 80 percent shares in local market. For years, China being a neighboring country of Vietnam, makers of it actively tap into toy market in Vietnam, giving domestic products absolute advantage.

Seventy percent of plastic toys come from China

According to statistic from related department of Vietnam, over 70 percent of plastic toys are imported from China. Generally, merchants in Vietnam hold that, China’s toys are comparatively sellable.

Personnel in toy industry hold that, kids’ toys made in advanced western countries, such as Denmark and U.S.A, may be in high artistic value, but they are too expensive. So they are not suitable for Vietnam common people. But China’s toys feature abundant categories, reasonable price and fashionable color and style, which would be more suitable for mid- or low-income households in Vietnam. Winning favor of local kids, China’s toys have gotten a great deal of market shares.

Great market potential

In latest years, Vietnam exceeds other Southeast Asian countries in economic growth. As the development of economy and living standard, people have more demands on entertainment. Toy market of Vietnam is expanding, making the country to be a land of toy development, which is concerned by toy makers in various countries. To China’s toy companies, a new round of keen competition in Vietnam market has already began.

Besides kids’ toys, amusement playset in Vietnam forms a valuable market day by day. Most of sight spots in Vietnam and park are under-developed, which are in lack of facilities, such as roller coaster, karting, bumper car, bumper boat, motorboat, cable car. It reflects huge potentials in this realm.

Rising of local

The thing to be attentive to is, besides other countries and regions, China has to face with challenge from powerful local makers, which are rising up with edge of production cost.

According related statistics, Vietnam now has over 30 toy makers, and a dozen of toy dealers. Every year, around 3 million kids’ toys are produced, all of which adopting local materials and technique. These companies have the capability to produce toys with good quality and outlook, which agree with local kids’ market. Some of them even aim at overseas sales.

In 2006, Vietnam’s value of export recorded 68 million US dollar, gaining a year-on-year growth of 157.7 percent. Many overseas merchants, especially Hong Kong and Taiwan, seize the opportunity to invest in the country.

When expand local shares, some Vietnam toy makers with good strength have intend to overseas market, especially China. A Hong Kong agent of a Vietnam company notes that, since China has a huge market, they are considering entering it with advantage on cost.

Need more effort to ensure China’s edges

After Vietnam entering WTO, tariff would be lowered sustainedly. It is expected that, China’s companies should take this opportunity to strengthen their capability on innovation, enhance the high-tech value and improve safety. Meanwhile, marketing strategy is to be optimized. When cementing market of traditional toys, toys with greater technical element should be developed with all-out effort. China’s toy companies should lose no time in intensifying development and promotion in Vietnam market, so as to make success in keener competition.
