  U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal agency is founded in May 1973 with purpose of “to protect the public against unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products.”

CPSC is responsible for the safety of more than 15,000 types of consumer products for use, consumption or enjoyment of consumers, including toys and infant articles.

CPSC screens and tests a certain amount of toy product in each year. It will investigate into incident or injury caused by toys, and will make public phone number for complaining on safety problem, email address and complaining form. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the supervision on toys sold in market, and companies are encouraged to monitor their own products as well. Once products see latent possibility of injury or have already arouse injury, CPSC will releases recall notice after confirmation.

CPSC toy safety standards and bans are laws of the United States government and it is unlawful to import to the U.S. or sell in the U.S. a product that violates CPSC standards. CPSC and U.S. Customs prevent violative products from entering the U.S.

Statistic shows that, amount of China’s products recalled by CPSC doubles that of 5 years ago. Only last year, there were 467 recall cases, making a new record. This year, 24 kinds of China’s toys are recalled for safety reason.
